The Bicester Removal Company (TBRC) recommends that you
use us, the professionals, to pack. However should you
decide to perform your own packing, please find below
some useful hints and tips.
TBRC will estimate & Deliver the number of cartons
required.
Making up the cartons. Do not interlock the flaps.
Make sure the carton will be the right way up once you
have made it. Fold in two flaps with the other two
across the top and cross tape on the bottom of the
carton. Make sure it is the right way up.
Before starting work, clear the area of anything likely
to get in the way during packing. Find a clean, flat
surface such as a tabletop to work on and cover it to
prevent damage. Ensure the cover is clean and will not
mark a polished surface.
When you are packing we recommend you use plain paper.
TBRC will advise you of the appropriate items to be
packed in the relevant sized boxes.
When packing first place a layer of rough paper in the
bottom of the box.
Heavy items go in the bottom of the box with lighter
items on top.
Pack a layer of goods then always a layer of paper.
To prevent damage never over-pack cartons. regard all
glassware & Crockery as fragile.
It is best not to mix contents of rooms - pack in
separate boxes.
If you carry out your own dismantling of items, remember
where the screws/bolts/legs/keys are. It is a good idea
to tape them to the bottom of a base, inside a drawer,
or on the back of a wardrobe.
Pictures and Mirrors. If small enough should be packed
into a carton in bubblewrap face to face with a layer in
between. Pierce the bubblewrap to allow the pictures to
breath and not sweat. Always pack them on their sides,
not flat. Medium size pictures/mirrors can be packed
into picture cartons - they should be bubblewrapped
first.
In the kitchen only breakable items should be wrapped
i.e. bottles, sauce and jam jars not tins.
When packing food always check that the packaging is
secure before commencing. Bottles should be kept
upright. Ensure that food is packed separately. Where
possible try and run down the contents of your fridge or
freezers.
Always have a marker pen handy. After you have sealed
the box mark on it which room it came from with a brief
description of contents. This will help at the delivery
point.
